Chad Lyman possesses years of operational law enforcement and Mixed Martial Arts experience. He is the consummate professional, trainer, and street cop whose dedication to students and the advancement of officer safety through modern tactics is second to none. Chad graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice. His degree also included a double minor in History and Terrorism Studies.

With an EMT and Firefighter background, Chad served as a Police Officer for the Portland Bureau of Police after college. There he distinguished himself as a key trainer of police personnel in the areas of defensive tactics and subject control. After five years of service in Portland, Chad moved to Southern Nevada where he has continued his career in law enforcement with a major metropolitan police department. Chad currently works full-time in patrol and serves as a Gang Liaison Officer and certified Defensive Tactics Instructor. These duties give Chad a unique 'laboratory' to apply, validate, and improve the skills he teaches.

Chad has trained intensely in Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1999. In that time, he has earned rank and instructor certifications having trained with some of the top schools and instructors in the country to include the Straight Blast Gym, Matt Thorton, ISR Matrix, Machado Brothers Jiu-Jitsu/Team Mica, and Pat Militich of Militich Fighting Systems. Chad regularly attends law enforcement defensive tactics courses and is constantly sharpening his qualifications and abilities in various unarmed fighting systems.

Chad specializes in teaching all manner of physical defense disciplines for PFC during Restricted Programs and monthly Las Vegas Combatives Clinics. He is also the founder of Code 4 Combat and a coach with Excel Defense Studios. Chad's breadth of experience and activity in the realm of unarmed stand-up and ground defense allows him to continuously instruct hundreds upon hundreds of law enforcement officers, security professionals, fighters, and martial artists on an annual basis.
